State Tuition Assistance Program

The State Tuition Assistance Program offers up to $7,000 per year for tuition only and for one credential at each level up to a Ph.D.
Applicants are encouraged to apply for all available forms of federal benefits and Veterans Affairs entitlements along with applying for state assistance. These programs include but are not limited to: Federal Tuition Assistance and the GI Bill, both of which are managed separately.
State tuition assistance can also be used at participating online schools outside Virginia. It can not be used at for-profit schools or for religious studies.
Virginia National Guard Members can apply for State Tuition Assistance three times a year:

- Tuition amounts are approved by the Adjutant General of Virginia and are contingent upon the availability of funding.
- To be approved for STA, Service Member must read, print, sign, and send the Grade Release Form and Promissory Note. You will receive the forms in your email upon submission of your application.
- All users incur a 2-year commitment to the Virginia National Guard upon completion of last term for which tuition assistance was used.
- To prevent recoupment of the tuition assistance grant, submit your grades within 30 days of the semester end.
